Kestrel Audio sells headphones and speakers. Every unit has its own serial number. Stock comes by sea, and the forwarder sends a shipping notice in advance listing every pallet and every serial on it. Kestrel's power banks are dangerous goods that must live in your hazmat cage. It's live, and its next delivery arrives tomorrow.
What's happened
| When | What happened |
|---|---|
| 8 months ago | Tom opened the account. Kestrel's insurer requires its stock to be stored apart from other clients', and that's written into the account's rules. |
| 7 months ago | The first container arrived. Dan received each pallet with one scan of its barcode: 86 serial-numbered units and 200 cables. |
| 6½ months ago | 400 power banks arrived at door 4, the hazmat bay, and went into the cage. |
| 3½ months ago | A delivery came one pallet short; the driver had left it at the port, so Dan marked it "not on truck". A loose unit with a serial on no notice turned up too, and went into quarantine until Kestrel can identify it. |
| 3 months ago | The missing pallet arrived on the next truck. Chloe spotted a serial typed wrong on the shipping notice and corrected it from the box. |
| Yesterday | The shipping notice for tomorrow's delivery came in: two pallets, 64 serial-numbered units. |
Try it yourself
- Open Inbound → Inbound Shipments → INB-000022, tomorrow's delivery. Every pallet and serial is already listed, so receiving it will take two scans.
- Open INB-000013 to see the short delivery: one pallet received, one marked not on truck, and the stray unit quarantined.
- Open Inventory → Inventory Items and search for serial BDP25002151. Its history shows the correction and why.
- Open Warehouses → Warehouse Floorplan and find the power banks in the hazmat cage.
- Sign in as James (james.holt@kestrelaudio.example) to see his serial-numbered stock and tomorrow's delivery.
Why it matters to you
When your client sends a shipping notice, receiving is a scan per pallet instead of a count per box, and every serial is right first time. Stockist keeps dangerous goods in the places rated for them, so safety doesn't depend on someone remembering.
